Well where do I begin? It’s such a strange time for me to be launching this business. We’re in the middle of a national economic crisis, political revolution, and international pandemic. My focus has shifted so dramatically from when I first birthed this idea. Our national circumstances have abruptly forced us all out of our normal routines and comfort zones, directed our focus inward, and compelled many of us into meaningful action. Honestly, none of these things are inherently negative. They will all result in human growth, empathy, and resiliency.
Unfortunately for many, the changes this year have caused more than just a little discomfort. Thousands of lives have been lost, millions of people have lost their income, domestic violence cases have surged, police brutality is on full display, and many people are continuing to lose their homes and businesses. Given these circumstances, it is hard for any of us to remain optimistic. It’s hard for me to sit here and joyfully promote my brand or ask you to subscribe in any way.
My mission with NorCal Nomadic is to provide information on the region to both visitors and to locals. I hope to build this into a reliable resource for travel, recreation, dining, news, and other community offerings. For now, I will focus my efforts toward current events to showcase what Californians are up to during these tough times. Spoil alert: there’s a lot going on!
Due to COVID-19, I will be restricting my own travel to the Sacramento area. If you’re in Sacramento, great! Please follow @norcal.nomadic on instagram and be on the lookout for any relevant posts. If you’d like to collaborate on any projects, please head to my contact page to send me a message. If your interests include any other area in the NorCal region, I’d still love to have you as part of the NorCal Nomadic fam! I will soon be featuring all your favorite places, and hopefully some places you have never even heard of!
The universe has truly been testing us all. Amidst the chaos however, I believe you will find the very best of humanity. I have observed the unique coalition of groups who have up until now been largely unassociated. I have witnessed the selflessness of essential workers and caregivers even when the demands are too risky. In the wake of suffering, California is coming together in a big way. This isn’t a new pattern for us, and that’s precisely the reason I’ve generated so much love for this place. I hope that my work here will for you, inspire the same!
